Great Lakes Protection was started in January of 1986 by James D. Coté. Our first office was on Birchrest Dr. in the Grand Rapids Michigan Area. The business soon opened a second office in the Detroit Michigan area where is continues to operate. In 1991 the Grand Rapids office was sold as the majority of the business at the time was in the Detroit area.

Mr. Coté also opened a Prisoner Transport Business named Great Lakes Corrections and Extradition Service, Inc. This business was staffed by members of Great Lakes Protection who obtained their State of Michigan Certification as Corrections Officers. This was the first private business licensed to transport prisoners in the State of Michigan and provided prisoner transports both in and out of state for County Sheriffs and local Police Departments.

In 1992 Mr. Coté sold the business and continued to run Great Lakes Protection until the business re-formed with Mr. Thomas Frain. Mr. Frain was a former co-owner of Charles Services and D&R Security which was based in the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo Michigan areas for many years. The new business was named GLP, Inc. d/b/a Great Lakes Protection.

GLP, Inc. provides a high level of professional uniformed security services. We service movie theaters, motels, banks, special events, and currier services for many businesses including armored car service for several banks. We transport precious metals and gems for several out of state clients who have name brand stores through out Michigan as well as the nation.
